Dear diary,

I got into the Kaipaki team (of 2) to go to the Hamilton Spelling Bee. This is me way up front in the competitors benches. That is the good news. The bad news is that I cannot write. Spell, yes, write, no. Apparently they cannot tell my As from my Os. I'll print next time. I'd have been up on the stage if they believed I could spell as well as I can. Valuable lesson, that, just a shade late for me at 10.88!

Mind you, lots of others came off worse. One poor girl asked for the word to be used in a sentence, and the judge made it plural in the sentence, but when she spelled it plural she was eliminated because it was supposed to be singular. Another girl got asked to spell queue or cue but in a round where you could not ask for the word to be clarified. Homonyms without cues? Dad says they should sue the dodgy judges.
