We wanted to populate our part of Mystery Creek with environmentally-friendly
fish. We wound up having to catch them ourselves, as petshops could
only offer nasty carp. My colleague Brendon showed how his electrofishing
machine worked and we caught a couple of dozen "bullies", fish
that resemble Sailfin Mollies but are native.
Here you see us putting half the catch into the creek.
The other half went into a disused stock trough
as a backup to those we released into the stream.
Because we have been totally unable to get
environmentally-friendly fish for our stream,
I thought we should try and set up a controlled supply.
We know that gambusia (mosquito fish) thrive in the tanks,
so we are using this one as an aquatic livestock reservoir.
