How come so many houses do not have coat racks just inside the front door?
This one is made of recycled Rimu. Rimu is a rather beautiful local wood, hard and beautifully coloured with a grain that can be anything from white to red to dark grey. It waxes to a smooth feel with almost no sanding. Think of it as the NZ version of old oak.
This particular piece was rescued by me from the dumpster (along
with quite a few others) during the renovation of the physics lab
upstairs at work.
A short session with table saw, planer and sander saw it rejuvenated.
It has written on the back, for posterity,
"recycled from Physics Lab, Waikato University, 2006".
